Mr. David Aye
Hello students and parents!
Office Hours: 8am to 10am.
You might have seen me during the excellent performances here at Central VPA. As technical director, I lead a team of students to run lights, sound, and other stage equipment (mostly behind the scenes!). I also manage the school’s technology, which includes our music recording studio. My background is a bachelor of science in English/Speech Education, and I’m a former board member and participant in several local theatre companies.
My favorite thing to do at this school is teach students how to do my job! I feel incredibly lucky to work at an arts school, and I love to emphasize how knowledge in backstage and technology can open many doors for creative career paths. I can tell you a hundred ways any artist (visual, dance, drama, vocal, instrumental) can grow from knowledge in theatre technology. I’ve even helped select students with a passion for backstage gain opportunities for technical theatre training at The Muny.
Of course, any student is welcome to speak to me at any time (and they do!). We also have a Set Design course in our catalogue, which includes many of these aspects, with an emphasis on constructing a set for the musical.
Speaking of the musical, I’m proud to say that during the St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards, we won in the category for set design and construction for Once On This Island. We had fierce competition, too! I’m proud of what CVPA students and staff accomplished! When we work together, we can do anything!
