Mr. Haden Smith

I am the Library Aide at Nahed Chapman New American Academy. I love reading and am passionate about sharing that love with others, particularly our student body of English language learners at NCNAA.

I practiced law for seven years with a focus on criminal defense before pursuing education professionally. I have also been active in community and economic development projects throughout Saint Louis City. I enjoy the opportunity to share my background in the law and the social sciences with students in my hometown of Saint Louis, and to learn from the incredibly diverse population at NCNAA.

Some of my favorite authors for young readers are Patricia McKissack, Tomie dePaola, Valerie Flournoy, Shil Silverstein, Chris Van Allsburg, and Mark Twain. In my free time, I enjoy reading with my one-year-old son and continuing my own reading on the subjects of American and French colonial history, social psychology, world cultures and religions, and U.S. politics and citizenship.
