I am so happy to be your 8th grade Social Studies and 6th grade Computer Science teacher this year! We are going to have a terrific time using critical thinking, creativity, and technology to study and investigate early American History and computer skills.

EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS:

1. Students should be prepared with their iPad (charged), writing utensil, and paper everyday! Not having these items will make it very difficult to complete your tasks and expand your knowledge.

2. Participation and engagement are a big focus this semster! Take care of your work and ask questions if you have them!

3. Please be sure that you are coming to school as your best self. If you are having trouble, reach out. Your teachers got you!! Sikhona, Sawubona!

4.  We are making a change to Standards based learning, meaning student mastery is very important. Students ability to think deeply and apply new concepts  across their subjects and lives will be paramount.

STRENGTHS MISSION STATEMENT: The following is my commitment to my students and colleagues this school year so we all can find success through our unique strengths.

" By passionately engaging with students, I can spot their strengths, and feel their needs, allowing me to prepare resourceful lessons and share the spontaneous joys of everyones success with our scholars and staff."

PERSONAL: My wife and I had our first born son on New Years Day 2023 and have been loving every second. Even though he was born in St. Louis he will certainly be a Cubs fan. I hope you will all get a chance to meet him!

INTERESTS: Hiking and experiencing nature are some of my favorite things! I have spent weeks at national parks, and use my weekends to go for nice walks in the city or out on a trail. My favorite game right now are Assasin's Creed and MLB the Show on Xbox. What are yours? I have not played it in such a long time, so don't be surprised if I am not as good as you!  I LOVE music. As often as I can, I go to concerts or smaller shows in the St. Louis areas to expose myself to as much new music as possible. I have seen concerts from Kendrick Lamar, The Flaming Lips, Diplo and Billie Eilish this year. If you have any music suggestions, please share! I also coach basketball and track and field to keep me busy and stay in shape!

PHILOSOPHY: In teaching I believe strongly in student lead learning. Students are the most successful when they have opportunities to showcase their skills and dive into their learning. This year especially, students will have opportunities to teach themselves and attack every assignment on their own through project based learning. This helps them feel empowered, engaged, and fully invested in their work. Students mastery and comprehension of their learning is the goal, not to simply "turn in" their assignments and projects.

EDUCATION:I received my B.S in Secondary Social Studies Educaiton from Indiana University-Bloomington. GO HOOSIERS! I am currently in pusiut of my Masters in Instrucitonal Technology at Lindenwood University and expect to graduate in December of 2024.
