ABOUT ME
Hi everyone! I'm entering my sixth year of teaching and my third year at Gateway STEM, where I teach English 1, Drama, and Career Development. I look forward to getting to know you, but in the meantime, here is a little about me to get you started.
I have always been interested in the ways language can affect our view of the world and how those interpretations lead to our actions. I also really value relationships and helping people achieve their goals. Naturally, then, I became a teacher. After high school, I went to Southern Illinois University Carbondale, where I wrote for the newspaper and tutored the writing center, and I eventually landed a bachelor's degree in communication studies. I then worked in the educational nonprofit world for three years while I earned a graduate teaching certificate in English from UMSL. Outside of work, I love to read, ride my bike, play and watch sports, and perform improv comedy. I'm pretty approachable, so feel free to email me with any questions.
I can't wait to actually teach in person again and get to know you all more. Until then: stay safe, do your best, and wear a mask!
If you'd like to get ahold of me, my preferred method of contact is to email me at nathan.maul@slps.org
