Mr. Nathan Maul

Hi, everyone! I am so excited to join the Gateway STEM family this year as an English teacher. I spent the last three years at St. Louis College Prep teaching English and Theatre, helping as an assistant basketball coach for two of those years. To me, education is among the highest virtues of a society, so I can think of no greater way to spend my time than working in this field. In particular, I believe in the power of language in the shaping of people and societies. By studying English Language Arts, we do way more than simply read books. We become writers, poets, artists, investigators, historians, anthropologists, philosophers, communicators, and defenders of all that is good. It builds our empathy and our capacity of awareness by giving us windows and mirrors: windows into the lives of others and mirrors with which to view ourselves.

Quick Facts:

*I have a pitbull named Diplo and he's the sweetest dog I know.

*I am a huge NBA fan and can speak ad naseum on the subject.

*I am a local theatre performer, especially improvised theatre, and play regularly at The Improv Shop.

*My favorite book is The Catcher in the Rye, but there are many that tie for a close 2nd.
