Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Tim Basler
My name is Tim Basler and I am one of the physical education teachers at Gateway STEM High School.
I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University, in the spring of 2008, with a BA in Physical Education. I completed my masters degree in teaching, from Missouri Baptist, in the spring of 2017. This is my second year teaching at Gateway, but have served as a PE teacher in St. Louis City for the past 5 years. I served as the Athletic Director and Physical Education teacher at St. Louis College Prep (charter). I coached cross country, football, basketball, and track during my professional teaching career.
Hobbies - Triathlon (I have completed 7 Ironman races), Golf, Reading, or any outside activity involving sports or with my kids.
Family - I have a beautiful wife Colleen of almost 5 years, and two wonderful kids; Maeve (3) and Charleigh (1).
Other Schools - Fox C-6 School District, St. Louis College Prep
Philosophy - My responsibility as a Physical Education teacher are, in my opinion, among the most important in the school. I firmly believe all of my students are special and posses a wide variety of talent and skills. It is my mission to expose my students to a wide variety of activities, as to encourage him, or her, to discover and enhance these skills. As a professional educator, I will present these activities in a positive and professional manner, as to maximize the self-esteem and the self-confidence of my students. As a result of physical education, my students will learn that physical fitness is crucial for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, not only now, but for the rest of their lives.
Throughout the school year, I will treat my students with the utmost respect and courtesy. As a result I expect to be treated in the same manner. While I hold high expectations for my students, I do not expect each child to be the best, but I do expect them do their best.
