Mr. Jelani Bush
Hello,
Parents and students,
I want to introduce myself and give you a few notes about me and my life. I was born and raised in St. Louis and I attended Saint Louis Public Schools from KG to 6th grade. I was a student at Herzog Elementary and attended 6th grade at King Middle. I was then sent off to Kirkwood school where I graduated. During my time as a youth I played sports all the way through high school. I played football, basketball and track & field. Playing sports is where I find that I enjoy learning lessons in life through discipline, critical thinking and teachable moments. I attended St. Louis Community College Forest Park campus, then Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, where I earned a Bachelor's Degree and then completed a Master's Degree in Education at Lindenwood University St. Charles campus. I also have completed course work as a Licensed Professional Counselor, earning another Master's Degree.
I am married with 3 kids. My wife Amanda is a teacher in Ritenour. The kids, Julian 14, Jaxon 10 and Quincy are 4 years old. We love having a lot of family time and driving to see family in various parts of the country. I myself enjoy coaching football and track. I currently coach football at Parkway South High School, and track at Vashon High School. As you can see with a young family, we stay busy and, as a family man, I enjoy watching my two oldest children play football and basketball.
I have held lots of jobs all over the years. As a teen, I worked at a fast food restaurant, Six Flags, and a car wash. During college I did some of the same jobs, but all the jobs while going through college have been jobs related to teaching and working with kids. I enjoy working with kids because it keeps me young at heart and I also give them teachable moments in life as well as learning tools in the classroom. My current position at Vashon High School is as a PE and Health teacher. My role is to try to give students information that will help them make better choices for their lives when it comes to health & wellness and to enjoying physical activities.
I, also worked for Mizzou University Columbia, MO, where I traveled doing Pre-Empoyment transition work to help students with job skills, job knowledge, career options and peer mentoring. In that role, I was able to still provide students with opportunities to find options in life that fit best with their skills, wants and dreams of the type of life they desire.
