Mr. Jelani Bush

Hello,

Parents and Students,

I want to introduce myself and give you a few notes about me and my life. I was born and raised in St. Louis and I attended Saint Louis Public Schools from KG to 6th grade. I was a student at Herzog Elementary and attended 6th grade at King Middle. I was then sent off to Kirkwood school were I graudauted.  During my time as a youth I played sports all the way through high school. I played football, bassketball and track & field. In playing sports is whereI found that I enjoyed learning lessons of life through disicpline, critcal thinking and teachable momments. I attended St. Louis Community College Forest Park campus, then Missouri State University in Springfield, MO where I earned a Bachelor's Degree and then completed a Master's Degree in Education at Lindenwood University St. Charles campus. I also have completed course work for a Licensed Professional Counselor earning another Master's Degree.

I am married with 3 kids. My wife Amanda is a teacher in Ritenour. We have 3 kids, Julian 11, Jaxon 7 and Quincy 9 months old. We love having a lot of family time and driving to see family in various parts of the country. I myself enjoy coaching football and track. I currently coach football at Riverview Gardens High School, and track at Carnahan High School. As you can see with a young family we stay busy and as a family man I enjoy watching my oldest play football and basketball.

I have held lots of jobs all over the years. As a teen I worked fast food, Six Flags and car wash. During college I did some of the same jobs but all jobs while going throuhgh college have been jobs related to teaching and working with kids. I enjoy working with kids becasue it keeps me young at heart and I also am to give them teachable moments in life as welli as learning tools in the classroom. My current position at Vashon High School is a PE and Health teacher. In my roll I try to give students information that wil help them make better choices for their lives and to enjoy phyiscal activity.

I also have worked for Mizzou University Columbia, MO where I traveled doing Pre-Empoyment transition work to help students with job skills, job knowledge, career options and peer mentoring. In that role I was able to still provide students opportunites on how to find options in life that fit best with their skills, wants and dreams of the type of life they desire.
