Mr. Michael Allen

Hello, my name is Michael Allen. I will be your child's 3rd grade teacher for the 2021/22 school year. I wanted to give you some information about my background and what drove me to become a lifelong teacher.

I am originally from a small town in Southern Illinois called Wayne City. It is 20 miles East of Mount Vernon, IL. I started teaching later in life, which has actually become a strong point to my teaching style. I made the decision to return to school at the age of 40, which just goes to show that it is never too late to follow your dreams! I graduated from SIU Carbondale in 2010. I first worked as a substitute teacher for one year, which helped me tremulously with classroom management. No two weeks ever looked the same! I then accepted my first teaching position at Mount Vernon City Schools teaching 4th grade students, where I taught for three years.

I then moved to the Peoria, IL area and worked at Riverview Grade school. I first taught 1st and then 4th grade. I was also the athletic director and coached basketball, cross-country and track. As much as I loved the community at Riverview, I finally decided that it was time to move to the St. Louis to be close to my children and grandchildren, which has brought me to this exciting opportunity with Ames VPA!

I'm very blessed to have an amazing family to support me through all life's ups and downs. I have three children, all of who are now adults. They've gone on to have exciting careers of their own. One son who is attorney here in the St. Louis area, one son who works in the healthcare field and one daughter who lives all the way in Arizona! I also have three grandchildren.

A few fun facts about me, I'm avid Cardinals fan, golfer, and my favorite color is blue!

I am excited to start this new chapter at Ames VPA and I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Thanks,

Mr. Allen
