    Teacher Message:

Hi, my name is Ms. Laaker and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year! I am thrilled to teach kindergarten for a third year here at Stix Early Childhood Center.  Kindergarten is such a critical age for learning both academically and socially/emotionally.

Academically, your child will explore letters, sounds, and a variety of ways to comprehend fiction and non-fiction texts. We will also work on writing aspects that will help your child transform into a focused writer.  I look forward to watching your child express him or herself through creative writing!  I love exploring and learning through doing so, we will use a variety of hands on activities to make the learning experience fun and engaging. We will also learn about money, shapes, and concepts of time during math.  In addition to academics, your child will be introduced to character education that will help them grow both socially and emotionally. The students will learn what it means to be a good friend and look out for one another. We will hold frequent class discussions where we will practice problem solving, which will include brainstorming ways to make better choices.

Socially, your child will be sharing their ideas with the other children and me. We will brainstorm ideas together and discover ways in which they best learn. I think it is important that the students’ voices are heard and that what they are learning is conducive to their interests.

I value your input just as much as the students.’  Therefore, please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. The best way to contact me is via email at Natalie.Laaker@slps.org

I look forward to working with you in helping your child succeed in kindergarten. Here’s to a great school year in the hippo room!
