Elizabeth McDonald-Zwoyer

School-based Trauma-focused Therapist

I am excited to officially join the staff for the 2023-2024 school year after providing crisis support part-time during the spring semester of the 2022-2023 school year. CVPA is a beautiful community, and it is my privilege to join and serve it. I am constantly impressed by the strength of this community, and I am eager to add to that strength through therapeutic support and interventions.

An Indianapolis, IN native who calls Oakland, CA “where I grew up” because that’s where I lived after college and finally became a grown-up, I am now a proud St. Louis City resident (since 2015). I earned a BA from Smith College (Northampton, MA) in 2011 and a Master of Social Work from WashU in 2019. I chose to pursue a Master of Social Work and become a therapist because I believe it is the best way that I can use my skills to ensure that every human being I encounter receives love and compassion and is heard. I worked in substance use treatment before making the shift to school-based therapy. Much of my work is rooted in taking a strengths-based perspective, which allows my clients’ strengths to take the lead, instead of their needs or struggles casting a long shadow.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, creating art, and connecting with my community.
