Welcome to Gateway STEM High School! My name is Deborah Butler and I will be your child’s teacher this academic school year 2018-2019. I have a passion for teaching and strongly believe that all children can learn. I also believe successful students learn by being exposed to various styles of learning modalities. My personal approach in teaching children is a holistic view. I believe, “It takes a village to raise a child”. This approach includes parental and student involvement, close knit relationships with building staff and community links.
I have taught in the St. Louis Public School District for fifteen years at the elementary, middle and high school levels. During the past seven years, I have instructed students with Autism. This year I will be located on the third floor, classrooms 334, in which I will be teaching Reading 180 & American History. For the past two years, the classroom has been a success in helping our students’ transition to work sites, college and classes in the main building. We are hoping that our school can continue providing positive services for the entire year.
I received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Missouri-Columbia, Certification in Urban Education from Washington University and a Masters of Arts in Special Education from Fontbonne University. I am also a Reading Specialist. I have two children; Monique and Marlon, Jr. My family enjoys traveling, bowling and spending leisure time together. In my spare time, I like to read, relax, sing, swim, and spend time with my family. I believe life should be filled with love, joy, peace, hope, experiences and laughter.
This will be a great and exciting year at Gateway because your child will be a part of our team! You are welcome to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding your child. You can contact me by email @ email@example.com or by phone at 314 776-3300. I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child.
