Welcome to Gateway STEM High School! My name is Deborah Butler and I will be your child’s teacher this academic school year 2019-2020.  I enjoy teaching and believe that all children can learn. I believe successful students learn by being exposed to various styles of learning modalities. My personal approach in teaching children is a holistic view. I believe, “It takes a village to raise a child”. This approach includes parental and student involvement, close knit relationships with building staff and community links.

I have taught for St. Louis Public School District for approximately sixteen years.  For the past ten years I've instructed students with Autism.  This year I will be located on the third floor, classrooms 334, in which I will be teaching Freshman Literature & American History.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Missouri-Columbia, Certification in Urban Education from Washington University and a Masters of Arts in Special Education from Fontbonne University.  I am also a Reading Specialist. I have two children; Monique and Marlon, Jr.  My family enjoys traveling, bowling and spending leisure time together.  In my spare time, I like to read, relax, sing, swim, and spend time with my family.  I believe life should be filled with love, positive memories, joy, peace, hope, experiences and laughter.

This will be a great and exciting year at Gateway because your child will be a part of our team! You are welcome to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding your child. You can contact me by email @ deborah.butler@slps.org or by phone at 314 776-3300. I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child.
