Parent Teacher Conference Information: Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, 16 Mar, and Wednesday, 17 Mar, from 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm. Parents can schedule a meeting by emailing the teacher at: Ken.Riddle@slps.org, or by calling the school (314-776-3300 extension 14250).
Virtual Learning: As we enter the new era of Virtual Learning, we will be posting information very frequently on assignments, resources and other information to help students become successful in the Fire & EMS Academy.
Specific student information is also available via Microsoft Teams; email me (Ken.Riddle@slps.org) to be added to the Team! Students should click on the Virtual Learning tab for instructions on how to get to Microsoft Teams.
Note: The teacher cell phone should only be used by parents. District policy prohibits teachers from having one-on-one communications with students.
Teacher Message: Students should set up an account on my website, www.slps-academy.org, for access to all resources available for the Junior class and for the Senior Emergency Medical Technician/Firefighter Academy courses. The www.slps-academy.org website will provide all the information they need to be successful in class.
Gateway's Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Program is certified as an Emergency Medical Services training entity with the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services (BEMS) and has also been certified as a Training Center with the Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI). Gateway's EMT program can also provide training in First Aid and CPR.
The St Louis Public Schools Fire Academy, with permission from the State of Missouri, Division of Fire Safety, provides all the required training to become a Firefighter (Fire 1 & 2). The Fire Academy curriculum covers Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, Personal Protective Equipment, Firefighting techniques and other required topics. We also provide students the opportunity to assume leadership roles within the class.
The Fire Academy also has a number of Firefighters, Paramedics and EMTs who volunteer their time to help the students achieve their goals of becoming Firefighter-EMTs. We are the only high school in the State of Missouri that is also recognized as a Fire Department.
