• Do The Right Thing of Greater St. Louis, Inc. is a program that recognizes and encourages the positive behaviors of area children. KMOV Channel 4 in partnership with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, St. Louis County Police Department, Suburban Journals and Cooperating School Districts is proud to recognize area children who "do the right thing" in monthly awards ceremonies held at Police Department Headquarters. These 10 "Do The Right Thing" Award winners are selected from the hundreds of children who are nominated each month by area parents, teachers, neighbors and friends. These children are recognized as role models for the youth of the St. Louis region.

Since the inception of the "Do The Right Thing" program in the Fall of 1995, the program has attracted more than 25,000 nominations and has recognized all nominated students with a "Do The Right Thing" Award for their positive behaviors.

The goals of this project are to reinforce good behavior and to increase awareness of children's positive acts and deeds in the community. Be sure to watch News 4 St. Louis on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. for stories that feature recent "Do The Right Thing" award winners. In addition, a series of public service announcements, featuring testimonials from students, teachers, school administrators, police officers and News 4 St. Louis Anchor Robin Smith highlight what the program has accomplished and what it means to area youth, air on KMOV Channel 4 throughout the year. KMOV also produces and airs a series of "Word of the Month" spots that focus on character education. They feature area children explaining in their own words the meaning of words such as honesty, respect and integrity.

Children honored by "Do The Right Thing" gain a certain prestige at school. All students who have been nominated receive a "Do The Right Thing" T-shirt, and most schools have special honor assemblies where the children nominated from that particular school are recognized.

Do The Right Thing of Greater St. Louis, Inc. is a non-profit organization operating throughout the KMOV viewing area. The mission of the organization is to work in partnership with area law enforcement agencies, schools, media and businesses to recognize and promote the positive social behaviors of school-age children in the region.
