Welcome to what is going to be an exciting year for not only the students, but for the parents as well. I am Suzanne Murphy, and I serve as the Family and Community Specialist for Washington Montessori. If you are a returning family, I want to thank you for joining us again and if this is your first experience with us, I look forward to working with you.
As the Family Community Specialist, my duties consist of, but not limited to actively engaging parents and the community in developing effective relationships and partnerships, ultimately ensuring student achievement and school improvement; Helping families establish a home environment to support children as students; Identify and integrate community resources to strengthen school programs, family practices, and student development; Involve parents as leaders and representatives in the school’s decision-making processes; Recruit and organize parental involvement and support; Collaborate and communicate between parents, schools, and the community to promote parental participation in student achievement and school activities, in addition to developing a process to ensure an increase in student attendance.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to volunteer and participate in school activities such as, PTO, school yard monitor, breakfast or lunch monitor, classroom assistance, or assisting on a field trip. This year we're hoping to make it easier for parents to volunteer and get involved. ALL PARENTS OR GUARDIANS MUST COMPLETE AND RETURN A VOLUNTEER APPLICATION AND BE APPROVED BY THE OFFICE OF VOLUNTEER SERVICES BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO ASSIST. The approval process takes approximately 2-3 weeks for completion and upon approval and is effective for 2 years.
PLEASE NOTE, NO ONE WILL BE ALLOWED TO VOLUNTEER WITHOUT PROPER APPOVAL. SO COMPLETE YOUR SPPLICATION NOW AND DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE.
Please stop by the main off if you have any questions or concerns, or you can reach me at (314) 361-0432. I look forward to working with you this school year.
