Working with Metro students is a privilege, especially as they figure out what their academic plans are. Some students need very little assistance, and it's fascinating to learn about their plans. Others need much more assistance, for various reasons, including they were not exposed to all the skills they needed to learn in middle school to others who believe the education system is not designed for them. Our goal is to work with all of our students, starting wherever they are when the join us, to guide them to successfully completing their graduation requirements as we prepare them for their post-secondary education.
I grew up right here in St. Louis, MO and I am a proud SLPS graduate by way of Cleveland Jr. Naval Academy(NJROTC). I am a first generation college student. I attended and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in 2011. I married my best friend in 2013 which was one of the best decisions I've ever made. During my educational break I worked many jobs which built my character and helped me to identify ways to work with at risk youth and prepared me to be the school counselor that I am today. My experiences included being a direct care aide at Hawthorne Children's Psychiatric Hospital, an ABA paraprofessional for Special School District, and a Case worker for Children's divison.
I went on to pursue my Masters of Education in School Counseling K-12 and graduated in 2016 from Lindenwood University in St.Charles, MO. While pursuing my Master's I continued to work with at risk youth and in the education field. I worked as a Youth Specialist for the Division of Youth Services, and a substitute teacher for Hazewood School District. I received my Professional School Counselor K-12 certification in September of 2016. After being hired by SLPS I worked as a counselor for Innovative Concepts Aacademy @ Blewett and Lyon Academy @ Blow before coming to Metro Academic and Classical High School.
The Metro staff, students and parents create a close community that supports academic growth within a rigorous climate that prepares our students for success in college and beyond and I am proud to be a member of this Panther Family! I look forward to putting more emphasis on the social, emotional and mental health of our students to ensure that we are taking care of the whole child and not only the student in them.
