Bachelors Degree in English Masters Degree in Elementary Education Certified in Early Childhood Education
Hello and welcome to one of Mullanphy's Preschool classrooms! My name is Ms. Stevenson and I am excited to welcome you and your child to our classroom this year! I co-teach in an Inclusion room with Ms. Susan Kulka.
I graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville with a Masters in Education. My undergraduate degree is in English from the University of Missouri at Columbia. I spent 14 years working in the business world before pursuing my dream calling in education. I have been a preschool teacher at the Mullanphy Investigative Learning Center for 18 years. Before that, I was a 2nd grade teacher for 2 years.
The classroom aide is Ms. Fatuma Mganga. She has 4 years in early childhood education. She is a wonderful addition to the classroom and will support your child's learning.
Philosophy: The mission of the St. Louis Public Schools Early Childhood Department is to assure the social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language needs of children birth to five are met by developing a comprehensive system of educational services to support children and families.
My classroom philosophy is to use the Project Construct philosophy and curriculum to meet my students' needs. Students are encouraged to engage in an essential question or topic and through that interest, to meet their objectives in the four main domains: Cognitive, representation, physical development and social emotional. Students work in whole group, small group, and one-on-one with peers and staff. While there is some direct instruction in my room, students are given opportunities to learn through hands on activities. Students will produce less paper products and be able to discuss their learning strategies.
