•                               Welcome to the Curriculum & Instruction Department

@ Ames Visual Performing Arts Elementary School!

                                                       Jean Washington, Ed.S.

Currently, I am a member of the School Leadership Team and serve our stakeholders in the role of an Academic Instructional Coach. I have executed this position for the past 17 years. I am certified in Elementary Education,            as a Reading Specialist and have earned my Master's and Education Specialist Degrees in Education Leadership                from the University of Missouri, St. Louis.  I have dedicated my educational career solely to St. Louis Public              Schools for more than 29 years in various instructional capacities.

As an AIC, I wear multiple hats. I provide teachers with specific instructional strategies for student intervention or enrichment related to English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. In addition, I support teachers    in organizing and selecting scientific research-based learning activities that are aligned to the curriculum; monitor classroom instructional activities in a non-evaluative manner; facilitate professional development; work effectively to  help teachers set up strategies and resources for involving parents in the academic achievement process; analyze data to identify student learning goals by grade and content; work with the SLT and District Officials to ensure best practices are implemented by teachers for students; and collaborate with faculty to ensure students are prepared to demonstrate academic growth on various formative and summative assessments.

It is always my pleasure to work with the entire SLPS District, Ames VPA Elementary School, staff, students and parents.

You are welcome to contact me at Jean.Washington@slps.org if you have questions about curriculum, instruction or professional development opportunities.

During this Coronavirus Pandemic, please remain positive, safe and healthy!
