         Science – Germ experiment

Materials: two small bowls, water, pepper, dish soap

Fill one bowl halfway with water and enough pepper to cover the surface. Fill the second bowl halfway with water and some dish soap. Have child put their finger in the pepper bowl and swirl their finger around. When they pull their finger out there will be pepper on their finger. This represents germs on our hands. Have the child swirl a finger from the other hand in the soapy water, then gently place the soapy finger in the pepper bowl. The pepper should “run away from” the child’s soapy finger. This represents the importance of washing our hands with soap and water to keep the germs away.
