Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Kathryn (Kate) Berger
Dear Students and Families,
Hello, and welcome to Gateway! I am so excited to meet you as we return to in-person school.
Here is a bit of background about myself. I come from a large St. Louis family and have lived here most of my life. I earned my undergraduate degree in History, with English Honors, from the University of Texas at Austin. And I have a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. This is my seventh year at Gateway; I have also taught at St. Louis Community College for many years. I love language and literature, and I love teaching my students how to be better readers, writers, and communicators!
Currently, I am studying Spanish at Saint Louis University, with the dream of earning a Master's Degree in Spanish, so I truly understand the challenges that come with reading and writing in a new language. Besides reading (mostly English) books, I enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time outside, especially along the spring-fed rivers in southern Missouri, an area known as the Ozarks.
The best way to reach me is by email at: Kathryn.Berger@slps.org.
My phone number at school is: (314) 776-3300, extension 13150, but I can't really talk during classtime. However, I'm almost always available before and after school, and I'm happy to set up a meeting, if that's more convenient, to discuss your students' progress or any other questions or concerns that you may have. I am in Classroom 309W.
Thank you for visiting my webpage!
Stay safe and be nice,
