Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Kathryn (Kate) Berger

This year, I'm teaching Literature and Language, or English 1; ESOL Level 3; and Read & Write 3.  I'm truly looking forward to working intensively with our school's newest international students and helping them develop their  English language communication skills, as well as their skills with critical thinking and academic success.

I believe this is my sixteenth year teaching—I’ve also taught an advanced writing class for second-language learners at St. Louis Community College for many years, and I previously worked at an academically rigorous private high school in the county.  I earned my bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Austin (majoring in History, while receiving honorary recognition from the English Department).  I also hold a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.  I work part-time in landscaping.  In addition to a deep and abiding love for literature and language, I enjoy gardening, cooking, and spending time outdoors, preferably along one of the spring-fed rivers in the Missouri Ozarks.
