Mrs. Kukay

Meet Mrs. Kukay - I'm not afraid of paper cuts, I'm a Librarian!

Thursday is our all school author visit!  Kacen Callender, the author of Felix Ever After, will Zoom with Metro students at 10:00am Thursday.  Teachers will have zoom links for their teams and I will also post here.  Here is a link to Kacen's website Kacen Callender and a summary of the book:

FELIX EVER AFTER

FelixFinal_08.19.jpg

Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after.

When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages—after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned—Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi–love triangle....

But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.

Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve.

Every October is TeenTober!

TeenTober is a new, nationwide celebration hosted by libraries every October and aims to celebrate teens, promote year-round teen services and the innovative ways teen services helps teens learn new skills, and fuel their passions in and outside the library. TeenTober replaces YALSA’s previous Teen Read Week™ and Teen Tech Week™ celebrations, allowing libraries the flexibility to celebrate all types of literacies according to their library’s schedule. Let's raise awareness of the importance of year-round teen services in libraries.
