Saint Louis Public Schools Announces Teachers of the Year
ST. LOUIS, MO. November 19, 2015 – Saint Louis Public Schools presented its 2015 Teacher of the Year awards last night to 15 dedicated, inspirational educators. To earn a Teacher of the Year award, nominees must explain their teaching philosophy and approach to teaching; provide examples of classroom lesson plans; and be recommended by an administrator and a professional colleague. A panel of retired SLPS principals and teachers reviewed the applications.
The 2015 honorees are:
The 2015 SLPS Teachers of the Year were honored at an awards reception with colleagues and family at Palladium St. Louis. Deputy Superintendent of Academics, David Hardy, served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies. Superintendent Dr. Kelvin Adams, Deputy Superintendent for Institutional Advancement Rachel Seward and Parsons Blewett Memorial Fund Administrative Director Dr. Alice Roach also served as program speakers.
Each winner received a trophy, a plaque for his or her school and a $1,000 award provided by donors to the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation. Honorees in selected categories also received a $500 award through the Parsons Blewett Memorial Fund.
All subject-area SLPS Teachers of the Year will now be considered for the District’s overall Teacher of the Year award, which is determined by the Saint Louis Public Schools’ Professional Development Office. The winner will advance to represent the District in the Missouri Teacher of the Year contest.
