What is a Family & Community Specialist?
Family and Community Specialists (FCS) are liaisons for families and schools. We help bridge the gap between home and school while developing community partners for our scholars and families. FCS also collaborates with school staff for home visits and other support services as needed. We assist with Family Engagement events and activities, parent/guardian and student concerns, and help ensure our schools have a welcoming environment. FCS encourages daily attendance for scholars to increase academic success. Our ultimate vision is built on the foundation that acknowledge the full intellectual potential and provide opportunities and choice for our scholars. We believe in the identities of our families and seeing them from their strengths and needs, valuing and honoring families and integrating home school partnerships in achieving our educational outcomes.
ABOUT ME: My educational background started with SLPS and is continuing to grow as we speak. To be a factor in the community that helps guide my journey is something that is dear and very important to me. This is one of the main reasons I decided to become a Family and Community Specialist. Allow me to thank you.
Parents, guardians, and caregivers; thank you for allowing me to be a part of your village. Families have always been important to me. Please understand that parental involvement and support is crucial to the success of our scholars. Not only am I an advocate for the growth and development of families through education and family well-being; I am also a parent that becomes the voice for those who may feel unheard. I look forward to working with you on behalf of your child’s success in school and beyond.
My hours are Monday- Friday, from 8am-3pm. If you need a different timeframe- Please don’t hesitate to inform me so that we can work out a timeframe that is more convenient. I may be reached at (314) 231-2459 ext. 33432 or by email at: Shrita.Gagemiller@slps.org.

PIP (Parental Involvement Plan) The Special Administrative Board of the Transitional School District of the City of St. Louis (The “Board”) believes the education of students is a shared responsibility between the school, parent/family, and the community. Our mission is to cultivate activities that will encourage the home and the community to take an active role in the education of their children and our students.
The goal of the Jefferson Elementary Parent Involvement Plan is to establish a positive school climate and culture by increasing parental involvement by 25% or better.
