    Greetings Jefferson Families,

On behalf of Jefferson Elementary School Staff, welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. We are glad that you are joining us, as we embark on an exciting year of teaching and learning at Jefferson Elementary School. I am excited about all that this new school year has to offer and look forward to working collectively with our families to ensure that our scholars are provided with a well-rounded education that is founded on academic progress and social-emotional wellness.

We are excited to bring back 100% of our scholars into the building.  Due to the ongoing impact of the pandemic, we will continue to follow safety measures as recommended by the CDC and SLPS to keep our scholars and staff members safe. A detailed safety plan is available for your review on our web page or in the main office of the school building.
As you know, safety and academic excellence are our major priorities.   Our safety plan takes every precaution to ensure the safety and well-being of our scholars, staff, and families.

We will continue following the Three W’s:  Wash your hands; Watch your distance; Wear your mask.
School Hours:  7:50 AM-3:05 PM We ask that scholars not be dropped off prior to 7:45 AM and should be picked up no later than 3:05 PM.

Entry:  Scholars enter through Door 1B in front of the school, near the school sign.  Only scholars are allowed in the building. Upon entry, scholars will use the hand sanitation station and have a health check.  Once the health check is complete scholars report to their classroom for breakfast and morning circle.

Daily Health Screening:  Upon arrival, scholars will have their temperature checked and recorded.  If the temperature is above 100.4 degrees, the scholar will not be allowed to remain at school.  We ask that you wait until we get a definitive temperature.  In the event that the parent is not on campus, the nurse will call and ask that you pick your child up immediately and follow CDC and District COVID-19 protocols.  The nurse will let you know when your scholar may return to school and any documentation that is needed for re-entry.

Social Distancing & Masks:  Classroom furniture is arranged so that scholars meet the social distance criteria set forth by our District. Masks are required upon entry into the building and must be worn over the nose and mouth for the duration of the day unless eating or drinking.  If a scholar does not have a mask, one will be provided; however, we encourage parents to keep at least 2 masks in their child’s book bag.  The mask is part of the school uniform.

Hand Washing:  Scholars and staff wash hands and use hand sanitizer regularly and at scheduled times throughout the school day.  Proper handwashing is monitored and reinforced by school staff.

Technology:  We are a one-to-one school; each of our scholars will receive an iPad.  The iPad is part of the school uniform and should be brought to school fully charged daily.  IPads are distributed the week prior to the start of school.  Reach out to Mr. G. Boyd II, Family Community Specialist for information.

Thank you for entrusting your scholar’s education to the Jefferson Elementary School Team.  It is going to be an amazing school year!

    Take care,

Dr. Leslie A. Bonner, Proud Principal
