My name is Don Guinn and I'm excited to be in my fifth year as the Physical Education and Health teacher at Nottingham CAJT High School. My goal is to teach students of Nottingham CAJT the skills needed to lead a healthy and active lifestyle while developing an understanding of it's importance in life after high school. Before I started teaching at Nottingham, I completed my undergraduate degree at Southeast Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education. I'm certified in both Physical Education and Health in the state of Missouri. I recently graduated from Missouri Baptist University with a Master's of Educational Administration and am a certified secondary building level administrator. In addition to teaching, I also help assist in coaching our Character Education volleyball and basketball teams and I assist during the special Olympics track meet each spring.
This fall, St. Louis Public Schools will be starting the 2020-2021 school year virtually. We will utilize Microsoft Teams as our virtual learning platform. For me, I will meet with each advisory class at least once per week through a virtual teams meeting. I will post assignments for students to complete every week that encourage students to get active in whatever way works best for them while incorporating various health and independent living topics. Even though I won't be in the gym with my students, I will do everything I can to ensure that our students receive the highest quality of education possible.
I believe that the skills and knowledge learned through physical education are important keys to the overall success of our students after graduation. I want students to enjoy physical activity and to recognize the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle as it relates to living a longer, healthier life.
