The Farragut Morning Literacy Program has taken off with smooth sailing. Each day when students report to school they go to breakfast and then report to the gym where students are divided by grade levels. Depending on the grade level, teachers read to students or with students.
The students sit in circles and tell their teacher their goals, helping them start the day focused on succeeding. Then, they take a calming and focusing moment of silence led by Principal Cox. Afterward, the students head to Reading Houses where they engage in literacy instruction based on their strengths in reading. The students meet with the teacher in guided reading groups and work independently on building their skills in reading, writing, and spelling.
This daily routine has prepares students to start their day focused on learning.
