Introduction to Art and Art Applications – B155

    Rules & Procedures

Rule 1 – Respect People, Materials, and Ideas

Why: Respect creates a safe, creative space where everyone feels free to express themselves.
    Procedures:

    • Listen quietly when someone else is speaking or presenting.
    • Use kind, constructive feedback during critiques (“I like…” / “I wonder…” instead of “That’s bad…”).
    • Handle art tools appropriately (clean brushes, cap markers, return items to proper places, etc...).

Rule 2 – Be Prepared and On Time

Why: Being ready means more time for creating.
    Procedures:

    • Be in your seat at the start of class time, sketchbook or project ready.
    • Have required materials out (pencils, erasers, current project).
    • If you arrive late, go to your seat or join the activity without disrupting others.

Rule 3 – Follow Safety Guidelines

Why: Some art materials and tools require safe use.
    Procedures:

    • Wear aprons or protective gear when directed.
    • Use tools only as demonstrated (e.g., X-Acto knives cut away from the body).
    • Report spills, broken tools, or injuries immediately to the teacher.

Rule 4 – Use Time Wisely

Why: Art time is valuable and can’t be replaced.
    Procedures:

    • Work from bell-to-bell—avoid side conversations during work time.
    • Save the last 7 minutes of class for cleanup.
    • Raise your hand if you need to ask questions, do not wait until the bell rings.

Rule 5 – Take Responsibility for Cleanup

Why: A clean studio keeps materials in good shape for everyone.
    Procedures:

    • Stop work 7 minutes prior to the end of class to cleanup (an alarm may sound).
    • Return tools and materials to their assigned places.
    • Wipe down tables, sink areas, and sweep if needed.
    • Wait to be dismissed—don’t leave before the teacher checks the area.

    Rule 6 – Be Creative and Open-Minded

Why: Growth comes from experimentation and different perspectives.
    Procedures:

    • Try new techniques even if they feel unfamiliar.
    • Respect different art styles and cultural inspirations.
    • Use sketchbook for brainstorming, not unrelated doodling.

Rule 7 – Follow School Technology Rules

Why: Computer devices should support learning, not distract from it.
    Procedures:

    • Only use devices for research or reference photos when given permission.
    • Keep headphones off unless part of the approved activity.
    • Put laptops away during instructions or critiques.
