I was born and raised in University City, MO to my wonderful parents John and Sylvia Wright. I have two older brothers, John Jr. and David. John is also a teacher for St. Louis Public Schools.
I graduated from University City High School in 1988. After graduating from high school, I attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA with the intent of obtaining a degree in business. However, I decided to change to an education major and transferred to Harris Stowe State College. There, I received my Elementary Education Degree. I continued on and soon received my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. In August of 2010 I graduated from St. Louis University with my Specialist Degree in Educational Administration, and continued on to receive my doctorate degree in 2021.
Before I was the math lab teacher, I had taught second grade for one year at Gateway. Prior to that, I worked at Patrick Henry Downtown Academy as a Title II Teacher and Technology Liaison. The years prior I worked as assistant principal of Ralph Bunche International Studies Middle School. Before this position I was the assistant principal at Yeatman Liddell Preparatory Junior High School. And prior to Yeatman, I taught first, third, fourth, fifth grade, and was a math lab teacher at Mason Elementary School. I then became the assistant principal and later the Principal. I have served St. Louis Public Schools since 1996 in the capacity of teacher and administrator.
I am married to my beautiful wife Kelly. Together, we have 4 kids - 2 boys and 2 girls. Haley is 28, CJ (Curtis Jr.) is 26, Clayton is 24 and Isabella is 18.
