Degrees and Certifications:
I am very excited to welcome you and your child to nd grade! I am looking forward to seeing your child challenge him/herself and grow this year. While we will communicate throughout the 2019-2020 school year, to ensure your child’s success, I wanted to let you know a little about me before we embark on this journey together.
My name is Kathryn Hayden and this is my first year teaching. I recently graduated from Webster University with a bachelors in Elementary Education and a minor in English. Although this is my first-year teaching at Gateway Elementary MST, I am familiar with the school’s culture, as I was a student teacher here last spring. I am excited to continue to have a role in Gateway’s community and serve my students.
Before teaching, I spent a lot of time in various Saint Louis Public Schools as a tutor through Webster University’s Literacy Corps. I also have served on the youth board at church for several years. When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring my beautiful city, and hanging out with friends.
We will be working on creating a positive, nurturing, motivating, hardworking, and encouraging classroom environment. Students will reflect on their performance, daily and will be rewarded at the end of the week for exhibiting appropriate behavior, completing work, and following classroom rules. Also, I will be selecting a “Student of the Week” to recognize students for displaying the things mentioned above.
Students will have daily homework, which will reflect and deepen what they’ve learned in the classroom. I am asking that parents look over assignments with children, as well as emails and notes that will be sent home.
I am ready to have the best school year with my students and look forward to communicating with the families of Room #228, regularly. If you have any questions or things you would like for me to know, please do not hesitate to call or email me, using the contact information listed above, Monday-Thursday between the times of 3:30 p.m.. and 6:00 p.m..
I’m expecting a great year!
