Elizabeth Knoll

Hi Everyone! I have been teaching at Wilkinson since 2006 and consider it my second home. I have been doing reading interventions going on four years now. Previously, I taught preschool to second grade. My first love of teaching was early childhood and my new passions have been reading, as well as trauma and culturally responsive teaching. Our school has been fortunate to work with community and university partners the past two years developing our knowledge and systems to better provide a safe setting for children to start their educational journey.

My work at Wilkinson is anchored in the belief that all children deserve to learn in a space that builds upon their strengths and honors their unique identities.  I meet with small groups of students where we work on the building blocks of reading and writing. Our lessons always include: phonics work, sight word work, reading strategies, and fluency practice. The lessons are fast-paced, active, and tailored to deepen students' confidence in themselves as readers and thinkers. I strive to use materials that respect students' interests, cultures, and academic needs. The reading program is designed to help young students make substantial reading progress in a short amount of time. Students come to reading groups on a needs base as determined by district and teacher assessments. If you have any questions or concerns please consider me another resource at Wilkinson!

  • Life Outside of Wilkinson

When I'm not teaching I'm at home with my husband, daughter, and dog Pal. My husband works for KDHX community radio in St. Louis and my daughter just got her first job over the summer. We love to travel with some of our favorite destinations having been Fort Collins, CO, New York City, any Missouri state park, and Assategue Island. My perfect day is one spent at the beach. Recently we have been doing a lot of gardening, cooking, watching scifi or adventure TV, and reading.
