Welcome!
Hodgen Tech is simultaneously the oldest continually running school and the newest school building in St. Louis Public Schools. Founded in 1884, Hodgen School, a full uniform school, strives to instill in its' staff and students the enthusiasm for learning, hard work, and excellence that Dr. John T. Hodgen exemplified in his life as a general practitioner, surgeon, professor, and inventor. In December of 2000, students and staff brought the rich history of Hodgen across the street to our new state-of-the-art facility. A few features of this new building include a computer lab, 5 computers in each classroom, an oversized library/media center, a gallery for the display of student projects, and central air conditioning. In August of 2008, we were delighted to expand our program to include 6th graders. As a result, we are now gladly serving preschool through grade 6!* The h.e.a.r.t.s. (Hodgen's Excellent Academic Reading Tutors) Program is a program that we believe gives students life because it gives the gift of reading. It uses students and community volunteers to improve the readiness, reading, and language skills of kindergarten, second, and third-grade children through daily academic mentoring and small group learning.* Extensive Community Involvement Hodgen boasts of and is grateful for its over 100 volunteers and partnerships. In the fall of 2008, Hodgen became part of the St. Louis Professional Collaborative, partnering with Saint Louis University. We also became an Arts Partner School through Springboard for Learning/Young Audiences. We continue to value and appreciate the volunteers, support, and programming that we have received from new and old partnerships with Wachovia Securities, The Little Bit Foundation, Lafayette Park United Methodist Church, Eads Park Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood Houses and Caroline Mission, National GeoIntelligence Agency, General Electric/Junior Achievement, Gate District Association, and Barr Branch Library, First United Methodist Church of Webster Groves, Circle of Friends and many more.
* The Teachers and Staff of Hodgen Tech are proud of our school building and the instruction that takes place inside it. Come visit or join us as we seek to motivate our children to embody our school motto: We are the Hodgen Dragons and we are burning for learning!
