About me
¡Hola! My name is Profe Fita and I am your child's Spanish/French teacher at Long International Middle School. I was born in Spain and moved to St. Louis in 2016. I have a Bachelor's in Translation and Interpreting (English, Spanish and French) and two Masters degrees, one in Teaching Spanish and an M.Ed in Secondary Education from UMSL. This is my fifth year at Long and I am very excited to see everyone in person again.
Outside school, I love spending time in the outdoors with my dog, Mona. I love to experience all the new things the USA has to offer, whether that be food or new national parks/trails to hike. I love to share my experiences in the USA and life stories from Spain with scholars.
My Teaching Style
Comprehensible Input
CI is an integral part of my teaching syle. This focuses on my strong belief that the best way to learn a foreign language is to follow the steps we take to learn our native language. This is why my scholars need lots of listening and reading and then, as soon as they are ready, they need to start writing and speaking. To achieve this, I speak Spanish/French as much as possible in class and expect scholars to attempt the same.
Culture
I love sharing the culture, celebrations and customs of the Spanish-speaking world with my scholars.
Open Minds
A different language is a different vision of life. Federico Fellini
Judgement-free zone
I believe in a judgement-free class where scholars are encouraged, supported and feel safe. This is why we stand by our class expectations:
1. Sé amable (Be kind)
2. Haz tu parte (Do your part)
3. Usa el lenguaje (Use the language we are learning)
