March 30-April 4, 2020
You are all in my heart again this week as I think about everyone staying at home and trying to keep up with school without going to school. I know that I am in your hearts, too, so I want to assure you that I am safe and healthy.
Parents: Obviously, physically and mentally taking care of yourselves and your families is paramount. Should you feel even the slightest inkling to do so, please reach out to our counselor, Jennifer Ayeni at email@example.com and/or our social worker Becky Schulz at firstname.lastname@example.org. They are both available and interested in helping in any capacity that they are able.
Also, please do not stress about school or the assignments that I post. Let me know if you have questions. If you cannot access all of the assignments or links, it's no big deal. While it is important for the kids to keep a schedule that involves education, reading is most crucial. Your child should be aware of their reading level and I provide links to access leveled reading. Some questions have come up about www.freckle.com. I put many assignments up at a time because different kids work at different paces. The expectation is that each child will work on at least one math assignment and one ELA assignment daily. If your child has plenty of access to technology and wants to do more, they are free to leave the "from the teacher," assignments and roam around the site earning coins. Remember, at this age kids need to play plenty throughout the day. Playing is how they will develop the executive functions of their brains. Plenty of the kids will need brain breaks between lessons.
Students: Please listen to your parents. They know what is best for you. I know this might be a scary time for you, but together we will get through this. As you are able, please check out this teacher page, especially the assignments tab. New lessons go up daily. Many of the lessons are videos. Try the science experiments that you can. Don't worry about the ones that you can't. You don't need to complete all of your freckle assignments at once. Just 1 math and 1 ELA a day, if you can. Try to read every day for 20-30 minutes. Ask someone to read to you each day, even if you have to use tumblebooks.
I love you and I miss you. I can't wait to see you again.
