• Sigel Elementary School Uniform Requirements



    a)     Colors: ANY solid color

    b)      Students must wear plain long or short-sleeved shirts with a collar

    c)       With the exception of school approved logos, shirts may not have insignias, logos, labels, words, or pictures

    d)      Shirts must be appropriately sized and tucked in.  

    e)      Shirts must cover the midriff when sitting or standing.  Shirts must also cover the chest and back.

    f)       Undergarments may not be visible at any time. Students may wear plain white T-shirts under shirts.

    g)      No see through or mesh clothing will be allowed.

    h)      Students may wear plain sweaters or sweat shirts over school uniform. The sweaters or sweat shirts must be solid colored. 

    i)        Sweaters and sweat shirts, with the exception of school approved logos, may not have insignia, logos, labels, words or pictures.


    Pants, Skirts, Skorts, Jumpers, Capri Length Pants, Shorts:

    a)     Colors: Solid khaki, black or navy

    b)      No denim jeans

    c)       Must be free of graphics and embroidery.  

    e)      No pants or shorts with pockets halfway down the legs

    f)       Clothing must be appropriately sized. (No baggy or sagging pants/shorts or low rise clothing allowed. 

    g)      Clothing shall be worn appropriately

    h)      No see-through or mesh clothing that will reveal body or will reveal undergarments shall be allowed.

    i)        If belts or worn, they must be buckled.



    a)      Coats may not be worn inside the school building during the school day.

    b)      Coats may be worn to school and hung in the class coatroom.

    c)       The principal and/or the principal’s designee may make an exception if the building/classroom is unusually cold.




    a)      Shoes shall be worn at all times, and as needed, shoes shall conform to special requirements (such as PE classes).

    b)      Shoes that have laces shall be laced and tied.

    c)       Shoes must cover the entire foot.


    Other Clothing Items or Accessories:

    a)      Students may not wear large pendants or medallions.

    b)      Reasonable adornments are allowed. 

    c)       No gang-related clothing, accessories, symbols or intimidating manner of dress are allowed.

    d)      No head wear/bandannas and no sunglasses shall be worn inside the school building.

    e)     Only school activity buttons, approved by the principal are permitted to be worn on a student’s uniform.


    New Students:

    Students entering the SLPS school system for the first time during the school year shall be granted a grace period up to thirty (30) days before being required to comply with the school uniform policy.


    Principal may make exceptions to the uniform policy for special events such a picture day, school athletic teams, or other school clubs or activities.


    The principal and/or principal designee shall ensure that the policy is enforced in a consistent manner and require the student and the student’s parent or guardian to take appropriate action to remedy situations determined to be in conflict with this policy. Disciplinary action shall be taken for violation of the School Uniform requirement.


    First Offense:Students and parents shall be informed that they have violated the uniform policy.


    Second Offense:They shall be given the opportunity to change into acceptable clothing by using available clothes at school or by calling a parent/guardian to bring clothes.


    Third Offenses:  The student/parent will receive a written warning and they shall be given the opportunity to change into acceptable clothing by using available clothes at school or by calling a parent/guardian to bring clothes.


    Fourth Offense: Administrative conference with parent(s)/guardian(s)/student


    Students who do not comply with the School Uniform and Appearance Policy may be excluded from participating in certain school programs/activities and recess.
