Welcome to Honors English I
In this class, we’ll build the foundation you’ll need to grow as a thoughtful reader, confident writer, and critical thinker throughout high school and beyond.
Our work will center around classic and contemporary texts as we closely analyze stories, make meaningful connections across texts, and examine how authorial choices shape theme and character. You'll strengthen your writing through frequent practice, with an emphasis on structure, clarity, and voice. Whether crafting an essay, conducting research, or presenting a creative project, you’ll learn how to express your ideas with purpose and precision.
Each quarter is designed to mirror a different year of English at Metro, giving you a well-rounded preview of the skills, genres, and expectations you’ll encounter throughout high school.
Collaboration is a key part of our classroom. You’ll participate in group projects, discussions, and peer-led literature circles, gaining experience not just as a student but as a presenter, researcher, and advocate. Along the way, you'll grow more confident in using language to engage with the world around you.
