Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Alexandra Divin
Hello, my name is Alexandra Divin and this is my second year at Adams and my second year teaching. I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in the Spring of 2018. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Elementary education. I am certfified to teach PreK-6th grade with my degree. I am currently teaching 2nd grade, and it's my second year teaching that at Adams. I absolutely love working with this grade because everyday is filled with new discoveries and adventures.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and being outisde whether it's walking, hiking, or camping. I also ejoy playing with my three year old pit/ terrior mix pup. She's my right hand man, and keeps my on my toes. I also work at the Cardinals baseball stadium, so the children will be sure to be hearing about baseball in the fall and spring each year.
Unfortunately, this is a time where we are unable to be togeher and it's been a very weird adjustment. I love being hands on with learning with the student's and also just being able to see their smiling faces and goofy personalities everyday, so this has been very tough to get used to the idea of not seeing them for so long. I will be trying to post some extra online resources on my website every few days or so to try and keep the students up to where they should be. I will also be available through text, phone call, skype, facetime, or whatever is best through this process Monday-Friday from 9-4. If I don't answer for some reason, send me a message, and I will get back get back to you as soon as I see it. I am willing to help with any work by explaining or teaching any concepts needed. Please do not hesitate at any point to reach out duirng those times I have provided.
In math, we had just finished the intrdouction to multiplication and division, and were about to start a unit on graphing and measuring. I will be posting some resources to start introduing that in the next few days. Some other skills that are always great to practice with the children are basic facts for the fluency of those. Another skill would be adding and subtracting up to three digit numbers with and without regrouping. With that, reviewing place value would also be beneficial. I will be posting examples of these skills so they are easily understood of what I am referring to.
In reading, the easiest thing to do is just continue to read at home for at least 30 minutes a day. It is one of the best things to do to keep up their reading skill and level. If you have the time, it is also beneficial to discuss the text with your son or daughter. This can be done simply through asking who were the characters, summarize the text, what happened in the beginning, middle, and end. I will post a resource with more questions as well. By doing both of these, you are helping your child's fluency and comprehension which are both the most important skills when readng.
