    Important Memo Re: Assessments

    Dear SLPS Families,

The Saint Louis Public School District strongly encourages all students to participate in standardized testing. One of the best ways we can ensure we are serving the academic needs of your child is through regular assessments.

Each year, the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) determines which tests will be given by school districts and how the results will be counted or interpreted.

As you may recall, last year, DESE canceled Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing due to the pandemic. Consequently, the most recent MAP assessment data we have for your student is now two years old.

This year, DESE is requiring in-person testing for all students, MAP grade-level assessments (GLA) for grades 3-8 and MAP End of Course (EOC) exams for high school and advanced mathematics middle school students.

Scores from these tests will not negatively impact student grades or district accreditation, however the assessments will provide a clear picture of where students are academically—information that is critically important to our district and the state. Federal and state funding for districts that predominately serve students who qualify for free and reduced lunch is also determined based on these results.

Even if your student has been enrolled in virtual learning all year, we are required by DESE to administer the tests at school with a proctor. All safety protocols established by SLPS at the beginning of the pandemic will be followed, including health/temperature screening, social distancing, frequent sanitizing of work spaces and mandatory mask wearing by students and staff. We encourage you to reach out to your school principal for additional school-specific information, as needed.

    • March 30 to May 19: MAP EOC testing, high schools and advanced math middle school students
    • April 19 to May 21: MAP GLA, grades 3-8

Thank you for your attention to this information. Again, please do not hesitate to reach out to your school principal for any clarification regarding this memo, or for questions related to COVID-19 protocol.
