Hello! My name is Ms. Miro (ME-ROW) and I am delighted to be teaching Spanish here at Dewey International Studies School! I have been happily a part of the Dewey team for many years now and I am delighted to serve as the Spanish teacher. I also attended Dewey for 3rd-5th grade myself and am proud to be the first and only Dewey alumni to work here to date.
I graduated from Saint Louis University in May 2016 and started working here at Dewey in August of 2016. I graduated with a bachelor's in Elementary Education with dual certification in Spanish. I performed my student teaching at the St. Louis Language Immersion School for Spanish and have taught Spanish privately. I come from a Spanish-speaking family and have spent extensive time in Latin America and the Caribbean. Latin culture is one of my favorite things to teach! I am also a graduate student at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) for Educational Psychology. I expect to graduate in 2021.
For grades prek-2nd we center around the units "What is Your Name?" then lead into "What Are You Doing?", "What is it?", "Where Are You Going?", and "When." For grades 3-5 we overlap these same concepts while also diving into units coming directly from our Spanish textbook, Realidades, as well as the online website called Rockalingua and Languages Online.
I am so excited and looking forward to working with your child this school year! Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or comments. I thank you in advance for your support!
