A Message Regarding Inclement Weather:
First, if your student’s school does not have an accurate day-time phone number for you, please provide updated contact information as soon as possible. If you have inadvertently opted out of receiving automated telephone calls from the district, please consider that this is the best and most direct way of getting information to you quickly.
Safety is always a top priority. When possible and practical, we will call school off the night before. But, in the event weather forces a mid-day close, please know that we have established the following protocol for your safety and convenience. All information regarding weather related adjustments to schedules will be shared via email, robocoll, SMS texting, SLPS social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or X) and local news media.
If we have an early dismissal, school will dismiss at the following times:
Keying off that, walkers will be released and parents are asked to make arrangements to pick up their student(s) one hour or two hours ahead of the traditional dismissal time and ahead of worst of the weather.
Remember, as a parent or guardian, you have the prerogative to pick your child (ren) up or to hold them at home if that is what’s best for your schedule.
SLPS transports 17,000 students by bus, and we use a tiered release, so when we dismiss early, buses are still being released on a staggered schedule. Even when buses leave early, depending on the weather and road conditions, your student(s) may still arrive home at or after the normal time. For information specific to your family, please see the transportation page on our website: www.slps.org/transportation).
