Degrees and Certifications:

B.A. Knox College, Chemistry M.B.A. Franklin University

David Custis

I look forward to my first year at Central VPA. I will be teaching physics and environmental science.

I come to teaching after 23 years in manufacturing, working in different facets of surface finishing. The primary focus of the surface finishing was electroplating, the process of depositing metal onto different surfaces. This has lead to work involving products as diverse as tubes for hay balers, to shock rods for cars, to wires for fuses, to hinges for doors, to chrome for school furniture. I also worked in facilities doing wet and dry paint, as well as with many different methods of metal working and finishing.

My initial degree is in Chemistry from Knox College in Galesburg, IL, where I also participated in many on campus activities, including playing football, singing in the choir, throwing the javelin, and playing the oboe. I earned my M.B.A. from Franklin University in Columbus, OH with a focus in finance after short stints at UW Parkside and the Ohio State University.

Outside of school, I coach track and cross-country, where I have had the great fortune to go to state with over 50 different entries the last 3 years. Track athletes earned medals in the high jump, triple jump, 3200 meter race, 400 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 100 meter dash as well as in the 4x100 and 4x200. I also have gotten to witness four medals in cross-country as well as a third place team finish in 2022.

I am the father of two. Andrew is a freshman at UMKC majoring in Geology, River is a sophomore at Metro and is an avid mountain biker.
