I work in education as a way of giving back to the community. Having had the experience of a high-quality education myself, I try to share with a new generation my knowledge and love of mathematics and logical problem solving. Education is freedom, and as such I believe that every child and young adult deserves the opportunity to experience the benefits that a quality education can bring.
Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mr. McClelland graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Hendrix College. With an initial goal of teaching high school math, he was side-tracked by the lure of the technology industry. Mr. McClelland worked in various fields within Information Technology (trainer, software/hardware support, programming, system administration, etc) for 13 years before deciding to pursue his initial interest in teaching math.
In 2005, Mr. McClelland was accepted into the Career Transition Certification Program at UM-St. Louis. During the two years of the program, he taught at Stevens Middle School and took graduate education courses at night. Upon completing the program and receiving his 9-12 Mathematics certification in 2007, Mr. McClelland transferred to Central Visual & Performing Arts High School where he has taught Algebra 150, Geometry, and Advanced Algebra. Mr. McClelland currently teaches Algebra 150 and Geometry while serving as the Chair of the Mathematics Department.
Mr. McClelland was honored to have been chosen as the recipient of the 2016 Loeb Prize for Excellence in Teaching Science and Mathematics, a regional award presented by the St. Louis Science Center.. Additionally, he was named 2014 Pettus Award as the Teacher of Year at CVPA, the 2011 SLPS High School Math Teacher of the Year and, in 2009, received the St. Louis Science Center's Shining Star Award for Teaching Excellence.
