Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Mr. Helmer. I am very excited to be returning for my third year of teaching at Roosevelt. This will be my fifth year of teaching in St. Louis Public Schools. This year I will be teaching Government, Advanced Placement (AP) Government, and Psychology/Sociology. I am also the Social Studies Department Chair.
I was born and raised here in the St. Louis area and went to the University of Missouri for my Bachelor's degree in History. From there I went to Webster Universtiy and earned a Master of Arts in Teaching. Outside of the classroom I like to keep myself busy by reading, listening to/playing music, travelling whenever possible, and spending time with my wife and dog.
This schoolyear, at least the start of it, will be unlike any we have experienced before. Classes will be a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous learning. This means that some class sessions will take place "live" on Microsoft Teams or Zoom, and other sessions will consist of students working independently on assigned tasks. Students will be responsible for checking this website and their Teams page, and reaching out if they are having any difficulty. While this is not the start to the year most of us would have expected, I am still super excited to meet all of my students and begin our new schoolyear!
You can email me at email@example.com and I will reply within 24 hours.
