Program: Healthy Eating and Local Produce – Saint Louis Public Schools (HELP-SLPS)
Description: HELP-SLPS is a grant in partnership with Saint Louis University (SLU) to increase the amount of locally and regionally grown produce served to students as well as develop strategies for training and the implementation of local food processing at SLPS. The goal of the grant is to increase the amount of locally grown produce served in participating schools’ cafeterias. In order to facilitate the acquisition of this goal, SLU interns give presentations in the classrooms of participating schools. The presentations include content on the benefits of being healthy as well as information about the various kinds of healthful diets available to the students (e.g. vegan, vegetarian).
