Mr. Michael Gunter
Gateway STEM High School
My name is Michael Gunter, and I am one of the Autism teachers here at Gateway STEM High School. I teach Ecology/Environmental Science and Career Exploration. This will be my first full year at Gateway, as I started here in December of 2020 after moving from Texas to relocate for my wife's job. I have been married to my wife for 9 years, and we have 2 kids, 1 girl, Eveline, who is 5 and will be going into kindergarten this year, and 1 boy, who is 3 and is in pre-K. I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas back in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Minor in Exercise Sports Science. I also attained a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M-Central Texas in 2011 and a Master of Education in Education Leadership (principal track) in 2016. This will be my 11th full year of teaching. Before coming to Gateway, I was a Life Skills teacher at South Belton Middle School in Belton, Texas, and I have taught a number of subjects in Special Education and General Education, including Resource English, World History, US History, and Texas History. I have also coached a number of sports, including football, baseball, basketball, and track. I was born in West Texas in Fort Stockton, raised in Belton, Texas, and I went to high school at Salado High School, both of which are located in Central Texas, but I am very excited for my new adventure here in Missouri and within SLPS at Gateway HS. I can't wait to finally see every student in person in a safe environment! It is going to be a great year filled with lots learning and fun!
