            School Social Worker

Social Work Message: School Social Workers provide a vital link among the school, home and community.  School Social Workers are involved in providing services to all students. They provide direct services to students and their families including casework, group work, as well as providing crisis intervention, consultation and making referrals to community agencies.  School Social Workers consult with teachers and administrators and frequently participate on teams within the schools.

School Social Workers work with students and families for many different reasons.  Several of these include: attendance concerns, family dysfunction, behavior concerns, mental health issues, substance abuse, child abuse/neglect, life-threatening behaviors, economic deprivation, special education assessment, inadequate health care and lack of understanding of school policies and procedures.  School Social Workers provide advocacy for the child or family and are a link to community resources as well.

I received my undergraduate degree from Maryville University in St. Louis with a Bachelor degree in Psychology and Sociology.  I received my Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Missouri.  In May of 2012 I also earned a Master Degree in Education from Lindenwood University.

I enjoy my work as a school social worker with SLPS.  I have been with the district since 2000.  Working with teenagers to become empowered & successful young adults is my life calling.  I also enjoy learning about diverse cultures, spending time in nature, reading, movies, animals and traveling around the globe.

Everyone has a purpose in life…a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.   Deepak Chopra
