Students are posing in front of a living wall at Washington University in February of 2023! Gateway students are learning about sustainability alongside students at Washington University.More about me!This summer, I was chosen to attend a conference by the National Endowment of the Humanities entitled Little Tokyo: How History Shapes a Community Across Generations. We examined issues such as restrictive covenants, eminent domain, the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans, the civil rights movement, and gentrification. Here are some highlights from my week in Los Angeles.Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of the 10 camps established by the US Government to incarcerate Japanese immigrants and Japanese American citizens who were ineligible for citizenship during World War II.I was lucky to be able to hear the stories of those who were incarcerated. The Japanese American National Museum is an amazing place. Here I am engaged with the K-12 Climate Across Curriculum program in 2019. This program inspired my Climate Unit with Washington University.
