St. Louis Board of Education to Put
Audit Recommendations and Policy Updates into ActionSt. Louis, MO – September 2, 2025 – The St. Louis Public Schools (SLPS) Board of Education is prepared to set an initiative in motion to lead the district toward a stronger future by learning from the past, building administrative leadership capacity, and continuing to increase transparency with the community.
The initiative comes in response to the State Auditor’s audit recommendation as well as SLPS staff and community feedback. The board is prepared to provide district leadership with the tools necessary to ensure audit recommendations are addressed and that newly adopted policies are put into practice in every school and office across the district.
“The board recognizes SLPS is at a pivotal moment that is bigger than any one person,” said Karen Collins-Adams, St. Louis Public Schools’ Board President. “This initiative will be focused on strengthening our district’s foundational policies and systems. We need robust systems to help support district leaders and keep the focus where it should be—on educating students. As a board, we plan to build a district for not just today, but tomorrow. A district in which teachers are excited to teach and students are excited to learn.”
The Board has preliminarily engaged the Missouri School Boards’ Association for assistance in identifying key supports and strategies.
“The school board’s vision is about building a stronger, more accountable school system for every child in St. Louis.” said Melissa Randol, Executive Director of the Missouri School Boards’ Association. “Our organization is prepared to walk alongside SLPS and their Board to navigate their unique circumstances to ensure audit recommendations are being followed and that the Board’s policies are being lived out in practice.”
The next SLPS Board of Education regular business meeting is September 9th at 6:30 PM. You can also live stream board meetings from the SLPS YouTube Channel.
