ST. LOUIS, MO, September 27, 2011– The St. Louis Public Schools Foundation, in its effort to improve college access for St. Louis Public School students, is asking for your vote as it competes in the Monsanto “Grow St. Louis” contest.
The St. Louis Public Schools Foundation (SLPSF) is an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization developed to fund projects and activities at the St. Louis Public School District with a measurable impact on academic achievement, high school graduation rates, and the successful transition to post-secondary goals, such as college or entry into the workforce to ensure that each student has the opportunity to become a productive citizen.
Funding through Monsanto’s “Grow St. Louis” contest would support the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation’s “Let’s Grow College Access” college essay scholarship contest. The “Let’s Grow College Access” contest will engage 8th-11th grade students in rigorous writing exercises designed to enhance their resumes, set the tone for early college preparation and planning, and improve college admissions prospects. Awards ranging from $100 - $1,000 would be presented to students upon graduation and verification of their enrollment in a post-secondary institution.
